Obituary for Margaret "Madge" White

Margaret "Madge" J. White, age 101, of Navassa, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Davis Funeral Home, 901 S. 5th Ave., Wilmington, NC 28401.

A celebration of Madge's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Davis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 335 Main St., Navassa, NC 28451.

Interment will follow at Meares Cemetery.

At 101 blessed years, Margaret "Madge" Johnson White, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, quietly entered into eternal rest on August 2, 2017 at her home.

She was born on April 30, 1916 in Wilmington, NC. At 28 days old, she was adopted by Ida Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Navassa, NC. At the age of 16 she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined Davis Chapel Baptist Church under the Pastorialship of Rev. E. L. Matthews and was baptized and continued to reside under the Pastorialship of Rev. Michael Jackson, Sr. Margaret joined the Senior Choir under the leadership of Sis. Annie Kelly and Sis. Ida Brown. She also served as secretary of the church and BTU, President and Treasurer of the Usher Board and afternoon Sunday school teacher to the youth. She faithfully served until her health no longer allowed her to attend services, but held strong to her love and faith in the Lord.

Margaret met and was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Boston White. Born to this union of 65 years were 6 children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eldest son, William "Bill" White and siblings Willie Johnson, William Paris, Theadoshia Green and Johnnie Mosley, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Layton White (Cheryl) of Guthrie, OK; Luci Adams (Julius) of Leland, NC; Ida Dixon Graham of the home, Gregglin White of Navassa, NC; and Lenard White of Wilmington, NC; 23 grands, 20 great-grands, 15 great great-grands, devoted granddaughters, Lashona, Felicia and Katherine, daughter-in-law, Dorothy White and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, a special friend, Sis. Martha Grady, and a caring and devoted Pastor, Rev. Michael Jackson Sr.
