Obituary for Marian Clark

Marian Matilda Clark, daughter of the late Robert and Rosa Clark, was born December 27, 1930. She departed life on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in New Hanover County.

Marian was born and raised in Brunswick County. She graduated from high-school in Southport, NC. Shortly after graduation, she relocated to Baltimore, MD and worked as a nurse’s aide in many nursing homes until returning to Wilmington, NC in 1971. She worked the remainder of her years for the New Hanover County School System as a housekeeper until retirement. In her spare time, Marian used her green thumb to plant many beautiful plants and shrubs in her yard. You knew her house in the Hillcrest Community by the beauty and fullness of her yard. She lived in Hillcrest for over 31 years, until her failing health. Marian had a sense of humor and kept her family in stitches when they questioned her on any level. Her favorite saying was ‘ohhhh Brother’.

As Marian’s health began to fail, she had the assistance of three special aids (Gloria Holmes, Tracy Burns and Ashley Burns). She spent her last few months in Cedar Cove and Silver Stream nursing facilities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles Anthony Stith; two sisters, Lula Palmer and Gerthel Frink; three brothers, Foster Clark, Edward Clark, and Franklin Clark.

Survivors who will always cherish her memories are three daughters, Carolyn (Willie) Singletary of Winnabow, NC; Betty (Milton) Burns of Leland, NC; and Karen Stith of Wilmington, NC; one son, Keith Stith of Philadelphia, PA; ten grandchildren, Torrance Burns, Tracy Burns, Demetria Newkirk, Chauntrell Burns, L’Tanya Burns, James Newkirk, Demetrius Marshall, Kia (Rashad) Gattison, Monica Grady, and Amir Stith; three sisters (Lillie Mae Hughes of Wilmington, NC, Bertha Freeman of Greensboro, NC, Barbara (George) Hooper of Winnabow, NC; two brothers Lee (Ella) Clark of Winnabow, NC; Kenneth (Barbara) Clark of Springfield, Md; 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Marian accepted the Lord at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, Wilmington, NC. We will miss her!
